McSTREAMY – Former United States Vice President Joe Biden, 77, came back big time in the South Carolina Democratic Presidential Primary Saturday, February 29, 2020. Biden had not shown as much support in the first two caucuses and one state primary prior to South Carolina as his campaign had hoped and was looking for a big win to keep his candidacy for the Presidential nomination alive before the upcoming Super Tuesday, March 3rd. The huge win in a state with a 60 percent black population is thanks partially to the influx of life through the emotional endorsement of South Carolina’s favorite black elected official, 6th District U.S. House of Representatives Congressman Jim Clyburn.

The campaign hopes the momentum Biden needed to stay alive will continue on to next week’s primaries in 14 states plus American Samoa (a U.S. territory in the South Pacific) on Super Tuesday. Because of Biden’s tally in South Carolina he receives the majority of the 54 delegates up for grabs. Bernie Sanders came in a distant second place, just over the 15 percent needed in order to qualify to earn some of the SC delegates.

One of the billionaires in the race, Tom Steyer, decided to drop out of the race after not making the required plateau toward delegates. Steyer had invested a good deal of money in advertising in South Carolina in hopes of a better voting result. However, due to his lack of return on the money spent in heavy advertising in his last-ditch attempt in South Carolina, Steyer couldn’t see a road to the Democrat Party presidential nomination and decided to suspend his candidacy. Steyer dropping out results in paving the way for the other billionaire, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, to finally gain some votes and possible delegates Super Tuesday after not entering the early primaries due to getting in late.

With 93% of the precincts counted in the South Carolina Primary, Biden had 49% of the votes; Sanders, 20%; Steyer, 11 percent; Buttigieg, 8%; Warren, 7%; Klobuchar, 3%; Gabbard, 1.3%. – McStreamy NewsBriefs
