McSTREAMY.COM (01/11/2015) – 31 year old George Zimmerman is back in the Florida court system again. He was in court Saturday morning in Florida after allegedly being involved in a domestic dispute. He was arrested Friday night, accused of aggravated assault with a weapon.
The judge granted Zimmerman a $5,000 bond and ordered that he surrender all firearms. He is also forbidden to have contact with the victim, who was not identified, and is not allowed to consume alcohol.
Zimmerman is scheduled to be arraigned February 17 in this latest case.
Zimmerman became a household name in 2012 after fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, who was walking to his father’s house in Zimmerman’s gated community in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges after claiming self defense under Florida’s Stand Your Ground statute.
Zimmerman’s run-ins with law enforcement have become frequent since shooting and killing the black high school student.
In 2013, he was arrested after a dispute with his then-girlfriend and charged with aggravated assault, as well as misdemeanor counts of domestic violence battery and criminal mischief. In that situation, the girlfriend said she was not willing to pursue the charges, so the prosecutors office dropped the case.
Last year, a man told Lake Mary, Florida police that Zimmerman threatened to kill him during a road rage incident, but no arrest was made in that incident.
Meanwhile, Zimmerman claims NBC News edited his 911 call from the night of the Trayvon Martin shooting to make Zimmerman appear racist. He filed a libel suit last year against NBC. The judicial system threw out the claim last fall. Zimmerman has appealed.
