McSTREAMY.COM (05/12/2015) – The Obama Foundation announced today that the Barack Obama Presidential Center will be located in the South Side of Chicago. In a video, the President and First Lady reflect on their roots in Chicago’s South Side and announce plans to bring the future Obama Library, Museum and Foundation home to Chicago, where his political career began.
The Barack Obama Foundation announced early Tuesday that the library would be erected on park land that was proposed for the site by the University of Chicago. The site was selected over bids made by Columbia University in New York, the University of Hawaii and the University of Illinois at Chicago.
The Obama Foundation will be responsible for all aspects of the building, construction, design, and planning processes for the Obama Presidential Center. In the coming months, The Foundation will look to enter into an agreement with the City of Chicago to develop the Center in either Washington Park or Jackson Park.
As a future neighbor and collaborator on the Center, the University of Chicago to make resources and infrastructure available to the Foundation in the near term for its planning and development work.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is happy about the Obama Foundation’s announcement:
“The Obama Presidential Library is a once in a lifetime opportunity that will bring tremendous cultural, economic and educational benefits to the South Side and the entire City of Chicago for generations to come”, said Mayor Emanuel.
