UPDATE: Net Neutrality killed by 3-2 party line vote today. The Federal Communications Commission was scheduled to decide whether or not to change the rules that direct how free and open internet access should be. The vote came December 14, 2017. The Commission is made up of five board members and a chairman. Commissioners Mignon Clyburn and Jessica Rosenworce have spoken out against changing the rules that would allow providers/carriers to throttle or slow down the internet for some, but not for other users. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has released his 200 plus page proposal to dismantle the agency’s open internet protections. The chairman and Commissioners, Michael O’Rielly and Brendan Carr, voted to remove the 2015 protections put in place by the President Obama administration. The FCC allegedly received millions of dissenting communications from interested persons prior to the vote. Other subjects to be addressed in December: television station ownership rules, updating cable operator rules, and revisiting rules for wireless services. See FCC. See also Free Press.
