HERE ARE just a few highlights of the candidates up for inclusion of those having Rock and Roll Hall of Fame status in the RockHall museum:
With a rebel yell, and charisma that it was hard to deny, Billy Idol delivered what was punk rock styled tunes to anyone willing to listen, and many listened over and over again to those who wanted more, more, more during the 1980s and 1990s, and beyond.
In the 1960s, Chubby Checker took “The Twist” out of the hands of originators Hank Ballard and the Midnighters and through talent, personality and marketing ambition made it into a phenomenal career that followed built on catchy songs like “Pony Time”, “Limbo Rock” and many others into the 1970s and the love of oldies type revivals.
The rough sounding bluesy vocals from Joe Cocker brought music to our ears that was often copied and mimicked, but never duplicated, such as his versions of “With A Little Help from My Friends”, “She Came In through the Bathroom Window”, “The Letter”, as well as “You Are So Beautiful”, and “Up Where We Belong”, a duet with Jennifer Warnes, all cemented his career beyond his death in 2014 at age 70.
The colorful fashion and talented career of Cyndi Lauper indelibly made us understand that “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, and not just once, but “Time After Time”, showing us the “True Colors” of a musical star. Don’t forget that her first album “She’s So Unusual” proclaimed in every tune therein and beyond that she would be around for a long, long time with her “Kinky Boots” (her musical) and all.
See the RockHall website for more information about each of all current candidates for the Hall of Fame this year, including those not covered in the first half of this article.
The caliber of current nomination induction candidates for the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Famers will likely make it highly difficult to weed the list down to the target number. Fan Votes for individual music stars will be added to the total of all votes in the final tally. Fan voting at RockHall is open now until April 21, 2025. – McStreamy.com
