McSTREAMY.COM (06/14/2016) – The Orlando, Florida massacre of 49 people and injury of 53 more  at a nightclub called Pulse, by an apparently lone gunman early Sunday morning, June 12, 2016, took the media’s attention away from another, earlier, stunning incident. The weekend started out when 22 year old Christina Grimmie, a rising star in the music world, was murdered by an assailant who shot and killed her during a meet and greet after a Friday, June 10, 2016, concert at The Plaza Live Theater in Orlando. Police hadn’t even begun to dig very far into the investigation of that murder, when another gunman started shooting up the Pulse nightclub.

january-born_singers-and-musicians_630x400Christina Grimmie competed in season 6 of The Voice. She finished in the top three. Many viewers of the show and YouTubers know she was not only an amazing singer and musician, but wrote many of the songs she had been recording in the latter part of her career. When she died from the tragic wounds, the world lost someone whose videos of her original songs and cover songs (her versions of hit music by pop artists) were enjoyed by millions. Police say, her brother, Marcus, was at her side at the time the man shot his sister. He immediately tackled the man and while the two of them struggled, apparently, the shooter, shot himself and died.

Orlando Police Chief John Mina confirmed the shooter, suspect Kevin James Loibl, 27, had a hunting knife, two loaded magazines and two handguns in his possession when he approached and killed Grimmie at The Plaza Live concert in Orlando, Florida.

Before Orlando police were able to figure out what the out of town man’s motive was in traveling to Orlando and murdering Christina Grimmie, they were faced with another tragedy when 50 people were killed, and 53 people injured, by a different shooter in an Orlando gay nightclub called, Pulse. The news media jumped on that, immediate story, leaving more details about Christina Grimmie’s death investigation mostly absent from news coverage.

Authorities say the shooter at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub was Omar Mateen, who became the 50th fatality of the shooting spree.

pulse-nightclub_orlando-florida_scene-of-mass-shooting_600x368Television news coverage of the switch to the “bigger” story is understandable, because the large numbers of people killed, and wounded, momentarily overshadowed one young woman violently losing her life. The night club story gained the media’s priority and the young music star’s murder was put on the back burner for the time being as wall to wall coverage of the nightclub incident took precedence over Grimmie’s death. It was an historical incident: The most civilian casualties in a mass shooting in the history of gun deaths in the United States.

However, many fans and supporters of Christina Grimmie remember what a uniquely talented and warm human being Christina Grimmie was. They are saddened by her violent end. At this writing, nearly 6,667 fans have gone to a website called GoFundMe.com to donate money for her family in remembrance of her life and, judging by her obvious talent, the loss of what probably would have been a remarkable future. As of this moment, they have contributed more than $162,000. That number will surely grow as word spreads that the fund has been set up.

gofundme_dot-com_logo_green-backgroundThe GoFundMe website has been the vehicle for numerous other fund raising efforts for many other causes, including the Pulse Night Club incident that also took place over the weekend. At this writing, almost 88,000 people have donated a total of more than $4 Million to support victims of the Pulse shooting. The generosity of people in these types of situations sometimes is so surprisingly wonderful. It is heartening to find how great people can be in times of these, senseless, tragedies, and other similar needs.

There are many Grimmie fans, and others who abhor the thought of anyone gunning down a defenseless, talented entertainer in a public place, who find that act, in itself, a distasteful and disgusting thing to consider. There are numerous other people who, while sympathetic about the Grimmie death, have turned their major attention toward the mass killings at the Pulse nightclub.

tammy-baldwin_official-portrait-congress_200x200Wisconsin’s U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin is one of many Wisconsin elected officials who are appalled by incidents of the weekend in Orlando.

“As a nation, we have all witnessed a historic tragedy in Orlando”, said Senator Tammy Baldwin. “As we offer our thoughts and prayers, we also must come to terms with the fact that they are not enough.”

Beautiful singer, songwriter and musician, Christina Grimmie, was laid to rest in a ceremony, June 17, 2016. The young and talented 22 year old woman died a week earlier after being shot by a 27 year old man at the meet and greet time after she had performed June 10th at The Plaza Live in Orlando, FL, with the band called Before You Exit.
